The short answer
To publish a store listing you need at least two screenshots across your device types, a 1024 × 500 feature graphic and a 512 × 512 app icon. Phone screenshots can be 320 to 3,840 px on each side, with the long side at most twice the short side, as JPEG or 24-bit PNG without transparency.
For Google's screenshot-based recommendation formats, apps need at least four screenshots at 1080 × 1920 (9:16) or 1920 × 1080 (16:9) or larger.
Screenshot rules by device type
Every screenshot is JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha, and each device type takes up to 8.

Questions
- What's the best size for Google Play phone screenshots?
- 1080 × 1920 portrait (or 1920 × 1080 landscape) or larger in 9:16: it meets the phone rules and the minimum Google asks for in its recommendation formats.
- How many screenshots does Google Play need?
- At least two across your device types to publish, and up to 8 per device type. Four or more at 1,080 px or larger are needed for the recommendation formats.
- Can I use my App Store screenshots on Google Play?
- Only if they fit Google's rules: no side over 3,840 px for phones and the long side no more than twice the short one. Most iPhone sizes are taller than that, so export a 9:16 Android size instead.
- Is the feature graphic required?
- Yes. Google requires a 1024 × 500 feature graphic to publish a store listing.
